Brushing using a normal toothbrush

Hold the toothbrush at 45 degrees towards the teeth and the gums. Use gentle force back and forth in a “jiggling” motion to remove the plaque between the teeth and the gums.

After that hold the toothbrush at 45 degrees towards the upper part of the braces and brush in a back and forth motion. Subsequently hold the toothbrush at 45 degrees towards the lower part of the braces and brush in a back and forth motion.

Lastly, brush the biting surfaces in a back and forth motion.

Brushing using a interdental toothbrush

Use a small interdental toothbrush to clean in between the brackets. Remember to hold it adjacent to the bracket for maximal effects.

Flossing using a floss threader

Thread a floss into the eyelet of the floss threader. Thread the floss threader in between the teeth. Hug the floss around the side of the tooth and scrape up and down to remove the plaque on the tooth.

Mouthrinse

Use a fluoride mouthrinse once a week to supplement your brushing. This will reduce risks of enamel decalcification, tooth decay and gum disease.
